After leaving Rabat I headed back down south, first stopping off in my dear friend Aly’s site. We didn’t realize it, but towards the end of Ramadan transport becomes pretty difficult to find.
When we started looking into getting down to Zagora, we quickly discovered that lots of transport was already full, or we heard from Peace Corps that it could just be really busy and not the safest. So we took Peace Corps advice and decided to just enjoy Aly’s village for the holiday of L3id al Ftir. After Ramdan is over, on the first day that everyone is now allowed to eat during daylight hours it’s sort of like Thanksgiving. Everyone is going around and visiting family and friends, eating lots of rich foods and celebrating.
(This is me being scared to cross the rocks. Aly’s friends Simo and Mostapha helped me though)

(Aly’s host sister Sara. She’s 5 months old and my new best friend)
(Playing dress up at Simos’ house)
(They have sandstorms in Aly’s village too!)
While walking to Simos house on L3id, these super sweet ladies kidnapped us and told us to come over for tea and a snack. Turns out that the majority of their family speaks only Tashelheit, while Aly and I speak Arabic. It made for an interesting conversation.
Snack time with our new friends quickly turned into a huge meal of cous cous and fruit. This gigantic bowl was only for about 5 ladies. It was a lot of fun though, and we got to experience the holiday with many different families in Aly’s site.
Hopefully I can catch some transport home today. But if not, let the good times keep rolling.
(P.S. The weather is beautiful here! It’s only in the 70s or 80s and at night, I’ve been using a blanket! I hope it’s the same down in Zagora! ::crosses fingers::)

The three smiling ladies look like Flora, Fauna and Merriweather.
The lady in the middle was the cutest! She thought I was hilarious for some reason and we sat next to each other in an awkward embrace for a while. She kept mimicking my body language and laughing and saying I was cute. When I said my name was Rachida, I thought she would never recover!
