The White One!

The White One!

I have been at the cyber here in the capital city of my province for like 2 hrs trying to give this update. Lord. Anyway… here it is!

First of all a general update. I have been sick for the last three days… I think its just a passing things not a parasite. Hamdullilah!!

This week I will be going up to Tangiers for the Special Olympics Morocco event! Its going to be fantastic. There is also a Shakira concert happening up north around that time… Hmmmmm :)

I will be returning home to America in June and returning in JUly! Im so excited to see my family, friends and to eat Taco Bell. By the time I return it will have been 9 months since I have been in the motherland. Ridiculous.

I am still fighting the temptation to adopt a little African baby kitten. I swear they are coming at me from all angles. Im trying my  best though :)

Onto the camel trek!! I had a few moral qualms going in as Jo and Michael came to discover. I did some research on camels to see how they are cared for so that I could pretend to be an expert and know that these animals werent being tortured. Basically my assessment was that they were fine but huge and growly. So my camel or The White One as our camel man Yassin called him learned to love me and we are now best friends.

We actually got a little rain while we were out in the desert which was really cool. It was an exhausting ONE day excursion, but I slept like a baby out in the dunes :)

I cant wait to see everyone in America!!!

My great friend Jo and her brother Michael and I went on a camel trek out to Chegaga, which is in the Sahara desert. The dunes out there are HUGE.

  1. These photos are so beautiful, Rachel! What an experience! Kinda surreal… Sorry you’re not feeling well lately – hope it passes soon. Have fun and be safe in Tangiers. Looking forward to seeing you soon :)

    • I think you would have loved the camel trek! It was so crazy. LoL

I can’t wait to see you and the family! Give Bridget Happy birthday love from me!!!

  2. Rachel this is Mom. Wait til you get back and see the Top Model episodes in Morocco! It will be a deja vous experience for you I’m sure…especially the camel photo shoot. It’s funny you mentioned an African kitten. I had a dream…no let’s say nightmare, that you brought a lion cub home and then left it here when you went back to Moracco. It killed the dogs and ate your cats…resist! Love, Mom

  5. Hi girlfriend,
Sorry it has been so long. You look great!!!! Zander moved north and Mrs. Amy passed away. Hummmm! Maybe God wants me to join you on the Peace Corps journey. I just read an article about a 60 year old woman who went to south America. Please, please I know you will be busy but I would love to see you. I will be in Ohio from June 21 to July 8. I will pay for the Mexican food at the great place in Fort Myers, yes, that is a bribe. I love seeing the updates and the pictures. You are AMAZING!!!!

    • I am so sorry to hear about Mrs. Amy. :( That is such a tragedy, she will be greatly missed.

How is Zander doing up north? It must be great for him to be around everyone and to see Aaron. :) Gives you DOUBLE the excuse to go visit!!

You know the oldest volunteer in Peace Corps just finished serving here in Morocco, she was in her 80s!!! You would be such an asset to whatever country you were sent…. and Peace Corps is hard…really hard… BUT you have these moments all the time where you are like “Wait!!! THIS is what life is about!” Its pretty awesome.

I will be home for about a week before you leave for Ohio but I leave for Morocco again on July 8th. So mexican food in Fort Myers it is! :) Maybe some thrifting?

      I’m so excited!!!!
